Alpha-lipoic acid (ALA) is a naturally occurring dithiol compound synthesised in small amounts by the body and obtained from diet. Uniquely, it is both fat- and water-soluble, allowing it to act as an antioxidant in all biological compartments. It regenerates vitamins C, E, and glutathione. It also activates AMPK (like berberine), improving insulin sensitivity and mitochondrial function.

Key Benefits

  • Diabetic peripheral neuropathy relief
  • Insulin sensitivity improvement
  • Universal antioxidant protection
  • Heavy metal chelation
  • Brain health & cognitive protection
  • Weight management support

Best Form

R-ALA (R-form only) — biologically active isomer; more potent than racemic mixture. Na-R-ALA (stabilised) for best absorption.

Dosage

300–600 mg/day racemic ALA; 100–300 mg R-ALA

⚠ Safety Notes

May lower blood glucose — monitor in diabetics on medication. Thiamine (B1) depletion reported at very high doses. Take on empty stomach for best absorption. May cause GI upset.
