Vitamins
The cornerstone antioxidant for immunity and collagen synthesis
Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) is an essential water-soluble antioxidant and enzyme cofactor. Humans cannot synthesise it; daily intake is required. At high doses (≥500 mg) it transitions from an antioxidant to a pro-oxidant in tumour tissues — an area of active oncology research. Its roles span collagen synthesis, iron absorption, immune function, and neutralising free radicals.
Buffered vitamin C (calcium ascorbate) or liposomal C for high doses
500–2,000 mg/day
Doses above 2,000 mg/day may cause diarrhoea (osmotic). Kidney stone risk at very high doses in susceptible individuals.
