The calcium traffic director — keeps arteries clear and bones strong
Vitamin K2 (specifically MK-7 menaquinone-7) activates matrix Gla protein (MGP) and osteocalcin — two proteins that direct calcium to bones and prevent its deposition in arteries and soft tissues. Distinct from K1 (clotting), K2 primarily governs calcium metabolism. Often low in Western diets; found in natto, aged cheese, and fermented foods.
MK-7 (long-acting; once-daily dosing; preferred over MK-4 which needs 3× daily)
90–200 mcg MK-7/day
Generally very safe. High doses may interact with warfarin — monitor INR. Do not confuse with K1 (phylloquinone).
