The only magnesium form clinically shown to raise brain magnesium levels
Magnesium L-threonate (MgT) is a synthetic form of magnesium specifically developed by MIT researchers to cross the blood-brain barrier efficiently. All other magnesium forms raise peripheral blood and tissue magnesium; MgT uniquely raises brain magnesium concentrations. Animal studies show it reverses synaptic density decline, enhances long-term potentiation (memory formation), and reduces neuroinflammation. Human trials (Magtein brand) are promising but still limited.
Magtein (patented MgT) — no generic equivalent has the same human evidence
1,500–2,000 mg/day (providing ~144 mg elemental magnesium)
Safe; same profile as general magnesium. GI side effects at high doses. More expensive than other magnesium forms. Combine with regular magnesium glycinate for full-body + brain coverage.
